As we age, there is a gradual development wrinkles and crease around the face. The forehead, over the eyes, and the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet) are usually the first areas to show these signs of aging. Wrinkles are connected to a tightening of muscles that can be diminished quit a bit by using injections of botulinum toxin. This naturally occurring bacterial toxin works by paralysing certain muscles. When these muscles are paralysed, the skin relaxes and the wrinkles seem to fade away. Botulinum toxin is not only used for cosmetic reasons, since the 1970s it has been used successfully in treating hyperactive muscles around the eyes and other conditions involving the dysfunction of muscles. 

CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT

After your in depth consultation a thorough review of your medical history, an assessment of your facial wrinkles is conducted to carefully plan the exact placement of the injection(s). A tiny micro needle is used to administer the appropriate dose of botulinum toxin into the face muscles. The results are skin that remains smooth and even for 2-3 months. The Injected muscles are paralysed while untreated areas continue to work as normal. Pain from this procedure is minimal so no anaesthetic is required. Discomfort may occur immediately following treatment. You may go back to normal activities right away but you should avoid any demanding activity or rubbing/ massaging the area. Follow all the post injection instructions precisely to avoid any ill effects. In rare cases a muscle may be affected unintentionally, causes a slight facial droop that will go away with time.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

After your first injection, the effects can last up to 4 months. You will notice that the wrinkles gradually begin to return, but with repeated injections, the effects tend to last longer and injections last longer.
