Pigmentation concerns are a growing, global issue; they affect more than 90% of adults over the age of 50. They are a significant issue because of their unattractive appearance and negative psychological and emotional impact, affecting quality of life.
Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, and is a consequence of uncontrolled, localized overproduction of melanin by the melanocytes, causing irregular skin coloration and dark spots.
Cosmelan Treatment
Cosmelan® is a professional depigmentation method which has an intensive corrective effect on skin hyperpigmentations, reducing the dark spots that occur due to sun exposure, acne, aging, and hormone fluctuation whilst regulating the overproduction of melanin in the melanocytes, inhibiting and controlling the appearance of new dark spots.
Its efficacy is based on its double mechanism of action that on the one part has a corrective effect, eliminating the hyperpigmentation and, on the other, a regulating effect, controlling the overproduction of melanin and in this way preventing the appearance of new spots in the long term.

Cosmelan® is the world’s leading professional depigmenting method. Cosmelan® 2 is the topical anti-spot cream for home use. Maintains the results obtained with the professional treatment and prevents the appearance of new skin alterations.
Cosmelan® is a complete method that involves a single session, which can be performed at beauty clinics and dermatological or aesthetic medicine practices and a home maintenance treatment.
The session entails the professional applying the Cosmelan® 1 face mask which is then left to work for 8 to 12 hours, according to the phototype and sensitivity of the skin to be treated. After this time has elapsed the mask is removed at home.
48 hours later, the follow-up phase in your home is started with the application of the Cosmelan® 2, hydra-vital factor K cream and the moisturizing sun protection SPF50+. This follow-up phase is carried out for 7 months to achieve an optimal result and prevent the reappearance of spots.

The Cosmelan® Method Protocol
Two Step Process
Step 1: Application of the stimulating mask
- Skin is cleansed.
- Cosmelan 1 mask is applied in a thick layer to clean dry skin through a gentle massage
- Mask may lightly sting on initial application but this will quickly subside.
- Depending on the area treated, the mask needs to remain on between 6-12 hours.
- Instructions on how to remove the mask at home and an after-care kit will be provided.
Step 2 Application of Cosmelan products for Home Aftercare
- The Cosmelan mask is removed at home with a gentle, neutral cleanser.
- Mesoestetic Hydra-Vital Factor K is applied immediately after the mask has been removed to comfort the skin and protect moisture.
- Skin peeling process begins within 2-3 days after the mask’s application.
- Cosmelan 2 cream should be applied 2-3 times a day for 14 days.
- After 14 days Cosmelan 2 can be applied once daily.
- Since cosmelan 2 forms part of an integral treatment it is recommended to consult with our professional skin therapist on the precise instructions of the “cosmelan method protocol”.
Cosmelan® Peel Effects
Continuous depigmenting: 48 hours after removing the cosmelan 1 mask, it is necessary to continue with the daily routine to supplement the corrective depigmenting action of the method and to regulate overproduction of melanin inside the melanocyte.
Control of hyperpigmentation: At this point, it is important to treat the root cause of the blemish, controlling the overproduction of melanin by constant regulation of the melanocyte. This controls both intra- and intercellular melanin production and prevents repigmentation. Apply cosmelan 2 morning and night, followed by hydra-vital factor k, and moisturizing sun protection SPF 50+ during the day. In case of sun exposure, reapply UV protection at midday.
Control of reappearance: The tendency to develop dark spots is an ongoing risk. During this control phase, the reappearance of the treated spots and the formation of new ones is prevented, prolonging the results of the method for longer. Apply cosmelan 2 at night, followed by hydra-vital factor k. During the day, apply moisturizing sun protection SPF 50+ and reapply in cases of direct sun exposure.
Sun protection: Once the method is complete, we strongly recommend continuous use of sun protection as a permanent cosmetic treatment
Cosmelan® Peel Results
Initially you will notice skin blemishes begin to fade and a brighter complexion emerging. Within a couple of weeks, your skin will become more radiant with a healthier glow. The full benefits of the Cosmelan Peel will be seen within 4-5 weeks.
The Cosmelan Peel lasts for many months and it is imperative to follow the home aftercare process to obtain optimum results. Your skin will be sensitive the first two weeks after treatment and you should avoid sun exposure. Apply a full spectrum sunscreen at all times.
Minimal side effects
May include light to moderate redness and discomfort, similar to a sunburn. It is common for your skin to feel tight or itchy. In more serious complications scarring may occur.
