WHAT IS BREAST REDUCTION?

RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

As with any types of surgery, there are risks and complications associated with this procedure. Always discuss these and any other issues that might concern you with your doctor at the time of consultation. Some possible side effects could be infection, scarring or over hardening, changes in sensation, uneven size or shape after a breast reduction could affect your ability to breastfeed in the future.

WHAT TO EXPECT POST SURGERY

You will be placed under a general anesthetic and under normal circumstances will be released the same day. Some tenderness, Swelling, and bruises are to be expected. Most patients take a few days off from normal activities. Your Plastic Surgeon will most likely prescribe a pain relief medication. After surgery, you will wear outfitted with a special elastic covering or surgical bra to provide the necessary support for your breasts. Avoid strenuous activities like exercise, heavy lifting, swimming, and sports until released by your surgeon.
After your procedure, if you experience any of the following, seek help immediately:

• A fever higher than 38ºC ( 100F) or sudden chills.
• Nausea, cramping , vomiting, or diarrhoea.
• Shortness of breath, or trouble breathing.
• Heavy bleeding, or leakage of blood or fluid form the incisions beyond the 1 st day following surgery.
• Redness or excessive tenderness around the site that seems to spread.

Your surgeon will issue you detailed instructions for post-operative care. These may include How to care for your incisions, changing bandages or dressings, medications needed, their usage, specific signs to watch for, and what to expect as you heal. Also, discuss any concerns or question you may have about your care with your surgeon.
Make sure to follow up with your surgeon as needed, and report any unusual symptoms immediately.

WILL I HAVE SCARRING?

Any invasive surgery can leave scars, but your Surgeon is a specialist with the skill to minimise scarring and make them as unobtrusive as possible. Most scarring will be hidden in natural skin lines or creases. Most Scars diminish with time and proper care.

WHAT ABOUT AN AMENDMENT SURGERY?

Breast reduction surgery is normally a one-time procedure, but there are circumstances where modification surgery may be required to correct minor irregularities.
